A QUESTION TO JESUS

Dragged on by soldiers to meet one of the most powerful men in government at the time, Jesus was face to face with Pontius Pilate, the governor of Judaea. The situation around was way far from what this political leader would ask Jesus later on; there was noise at the outside, as Jesus has been brought to Pilate as a criminal. However, like any other intelligent leader, Pilate was interested in finding out before making a judgment.

As he questioned on, Jesus made claim to the purpose of His birth, which was to bear witness to the truth. Pilate was caught by this statement and he asked Jesus “What is truth?” It should not be surprising that Pilate must have missed the sermon where Jesus had answered this question earlier; political leaders at that time and at this time are often too busy to attend religious gatherings. Although Jesus did not answer Pilate, we know His answer prior to this question; He had stated unequivocally that He is the truth (John 14:6). If we can rephrase the question of Pilate it would be “Who is truth?” and the answer of Jesus would have been “I am”. This exclusive claim by Jesus has aroused several arguments in and outside religious circles, but we cannot deny the fact that the correlation of the life of Jesus with His claim as the Truth is unparalleled.

Not only did He fulfill more than 50 prophecies with pinpoint accuracy, but His revelation and relationship with God are also mysteriously unique; He talks about God as His Father, and for the first time gives us the relational character of God which no Old Testament prophet or any other religious leader gave us.

More than this, we see an expression of love in a way we had never seen displayed. His reality did not override His divinity, neither did His simplicity diminish His supremacy. You can come to trust Him for He is the Truth, the Way, and the Life
