Is There a difference between the two? That was a exactly my thought too.
About 2 days ago, I was thinking about someone. Not in any specific way, but just as my mind was tending to how spiritual the person is, the Holy Spirit spoke gently to me "She has a spiritual life, not a Christian life". At that moment, I could feel the faint line of demarcation between the two; the Christian life and the spiritual life.
A lot of us may not see so much as to the possibility of someone being spiritual but not Christian. To be spiritual in its general sense means to engage in any act that involves accessing the realms of the spirit. I mean acts like praying, repeating certain words, spiritual meditation, speaking in non-human languages, fasting, ability to conjour spirits, chanting and others.
It is possible to engage in these actions without having been washed in the blood of Jesus, and yielding to the control and direction of the Holy Spirit of God, which are some of the things that means being a Christian. The Christian life is a spiritual life because it involves acts like worship, praying in the Holy Spirit, fasting and meditation, but the Christian life is not the only way to the spiritual realm.
When a person engages in acts that can access the spiritual realm, but their life is not being led by the Spirit of God or under the atonement of Jesus Christ, they are being spiritual but not Christian. When a person prays in tongues, chants and meditates, but they do not possess nor express the holiness, forgiveness, sobriety, love without lust, moderation and passion for sinners like Christ they are being spiritual but not Christian.
A true Christian must engage in spiritual acts, like praying and fasting, but it is not these things that make up the core Christian life. Man already has a spiritual inclination, and that is why there is a sense of God in us all. We need Christ to bring us to the proper worship of the true God. Being spiritual does not make us a good Christian, rather, being a good Christian is the way to make our spiritual life acceptable to God, as we live under the leadership of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Spirit specifically wants me to add this as the closing; the spiritual life will help you to overcome your enemies here on earth and achieve your goals, but it is the Christian life that will help you see God in heaven.
