3 Things I did as Blogger

I’ve come to realize one thing in this phase as a teen, just one! We learn every day of our lives. Most times, we span through these stages painstakingly or with ease through our different journeys. It’s a journey, not a competition I keep telling myself when I’m drained in the river of life itself. Everyone has passed through that stage of life where you feel you need more, you want more and I’m definitely sure we’ve also passed through a stage where we think we are not just doing enough to make things right especially when it comes to growth.

Well, they are genuine feelings that would surface one way the other as we progress in life; and I think I felt this in my space of one month as a blogger. So what I abruptly meant earlier is that ‘ You know nothing’. I know these are words no one wants to see or even find in between pages of a book but someone has to say them. In this piece, I will be sharing 3 THINGS I learned, relearned and unlearned as a blogger.

#1. Know the basics

We all want that high paying job that would rake in a whole lot of money actively or passively as a freelancer/ entrepreneur. Well, you have to know little things that matter in whatever field you choose. This is one key factor everyone seems to elude when kickstarting their journey. Most times your dearest life coach won’t tell you this because it’s literally what they think you should know. At least to the barest minimum.

If you have a keen interest in becoming a UI/UX designer; the least you can do for yourself is to be well grounded( you might not be a pro tho) in photoshop, Coreldraw, Illustrator, Canva and all other designing applications you think would be a good background for you before venturing into your desired field.

If you want to be a blogger like me, basic on-page and off-page SEO/SEM strategies, use of keywords, headings, hyperlinks, the building of portfolios, management apps like Trello/ Clickup ( I actually got to know about Trello in my first few days, but I was quite conversant with Clickup), Google docs (makes your work faster than MS word), and a whole lot more. You should have worked or had a glimpse of the use of these apps and key factors to have a hitch-free time as a freelance blogger.

#2. Social Media!

As cliche as this sounds, it is one sole channel I am really keen on optimizing well(to my best possible knowledge at least). Many people today still haven’t gotten a hang of having a well optimised social media account. Currently, I’m on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn (people call it “THE CORPORATE FACEBOOK” Well, spoiler alert! It’s not.) Medium, and Facebook. Trust me when I say there are tons of remote, on-site jobs on these apps if you know how to utilize them properly.

Ps: I’m not one of those guys that give you all sort of ‘Aspire to perspire and never to Maguire’ all kind of inspiration on LinkedIn. I seldom even post when it comes to that genre but I know my Onions. So should you.

#3. Freelancing Accounts

I’m actually going to burst your bubbles; I have never gotten a Job or GIG on any freelance website or app; be it Jobs77( I got a mail of me not even using it days ago), Recruit.net, Upwork, Fiverr (They blocked my account after two weeks when I created one). I know it’s quite hard to believe but that’s the truth. Most times, I get the impression of “Hey! That’s not even possible, and you get steady paying jobs. Like how?” I am stating this as my 3rd point because I know how key and important it is to have one. I’m still trying to get my first job on them that’s why I keep tabs on Top-rated freelancers to learn what they are doing and what I’m not doing.

Just a heads up, if you’re a noob in the writing, tech and freelancing space, this should be the last thing on your table (in my opinion tho). You should first work on building your portfolio off Upwork/Fiverr, having more samples before diving into it so as not to get frustrated. Trust me, you’ll need your mental health when you kick start.

Conclusion

As a blogger, I’m still very much in the learning space and open to new challenges day after day. There would be moments when I don’t even want to work, and all I want to do is binge watch Netflix series. That’s very human, everyone needs that rest once in a while and that shouldn’t impede growth. I wake up every day open-minded to different challenges both positively and negatively having in the back of my mind that I am in one phase of my life and I would make the journey worthwhile.
