The type of people we surround ourselves with on a routine plays a crucial role in our lives as individuals. And the value of good folks and friends? That itself is one important part of our lives that cannot be overlooked. Every day we wake up, say our prayers, no matter how little, then, we head out without having a glimpse of how the day could go, what and where things could go wrong, the type of people we would meet on walkways, in public vehicles and large gatherings. On a bad day, you’d wish the day paces faster than a bolt, while absorbing the pains, rigors, and intensity that come with it. And on a really good day, you’d pray and wish it never ends. You get back home and you’ll end up sleeping with a half-smile on your face fantasizing about the dreaded unthinkable, and bold move you took talking to that special being who made your boring day worthwhile.
Over the years, knowingly and unknowingly the people we’ve met, helped, or neglected have one way or the other made us who we are today. Out of the goodness of their hearts, they have unknowingly made us much better people through both their subtle and harsh advice, conversations, hugs, and trust me their faces on a bad day sheds light within our darkest minds. Most times we can’t just help but scream inside our heads… ‘Where have you been all these while?’ Funny enough, we get to meet these people on occasions we are least expecting, on days we thought it is finished… But there they are; tweaking an awful soul to be anything better than their fantasies.
You read books and you’d see ‘Power of friends’, in seminars or on billboards they can be called angels on earth and all sort of fantasies. Either way, they are not wrong, any names they are called are worth it. But this should stick with you; they are humans like you and me, nothing special! Just dusts bottled up in bones, blood, and flesh. So how do you get these people to stick around? Trust me, being nice isn’t going to do the job.
I’d be telling a lie if I would say that it is by being nice and reciprocating whatever they’ve done to you. It goes a long way than that. Digging deep, you’d discover effective communication spans through a human's heart; by reaching out at times they need the most. Constant trials to make even the slightest misunderstanding not to bug you; trust me, you’d get oceans of those. Constant and daily affirmations of you showing your love- either to friends or folks, by being in their lives on special occasions. All these resolves to you being in their lives always even after the long-gone affection that was rendered. You most likely won’t see them in your entire life again. But the feelings, emotions, happy moments, and memories would be forever remembered by both companions. So in coming years, you’d look back and mutter within yourself. “Aced it!”
